  1. Blogging – Why Has It Increased Exponentially In These Last Few Years??

    July 2, 2009 by Michelle

If you go to WordPress.com on their home page they have the latest stats:

192,524 new posts, 284,383 comments, 50,748,132 words today.

Blogs today are exploding in popularity and the rate at which they are springing up does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

So it brings me to my question: Why has blogging increased exponentially? And I figured that the best way to answer it is to look at why I started blogging. Of course, the reason why people start blogging will differ -some people blog for the money, others for the enjoyment and some to reach out to people with similar interests, beliefs or experiences.

But personally, for me, blogging is a way to express my thoughts and share my experiences. It is quite cathartic to send my thoughts into cyberspace on a regular basis. A part of me also gets a thrill from connecting with others and hopefully building a rapport.

The explosion of social networking (facebook, myspace, twitter etc) over the last few years is a sign that more and more people are keen to reach out to others. Ironically though, the more time we spend on these sites, the less time we have to connect with people face to face. I am only hoping that when my daughter grows up she will have a balance of the two.
