I came across this little quiz (for the life of me I can't remember where as I subscribe to WAY too many blogs!) and it profiles your learning style in an interesting fashion. A very simple and quick quiz, I think it only took me about 10 mins to complete and spits out your learning style based on the responses to the questions.
There are 8 different "intelligences":
- Verbal-linguistic intelligence refers to an individual's ability to analyze information and produce work that involves oral and written language, such as speeches, books, and memos.
- Logical-mathematical intelligence describes the ability to develop equations and proofs, make calculations, and solve abstract problems.
- Visual-spatial intelligence allows people to comprehend maps and other types of graphical information.
- Musical intelligence enables individuals to produce and make meaning of different types of sound.
- Naturalistic intelligence refers to the ability to identify and distinguish among different types of plants, animals, and weather formations found in the natural world.
- Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence entails using one's own body to create products or solve problems.
- Interpersonal intelligence reflects an ability to recognize and understand other people's moods, desires, motivations, and intentions.
- Intrapersonal intelligence refers to people's ability to recognize and assess those same characteristics within themselves.
According to this site, understanding them helps you understand how to tailor your learning styles to suit. I was particularly interested in it for Boo rather than myself, but she is a little too young to take the test. However, out of curiousity I sat it myself and came out as predominantly an "intrapersonal" type. But it was spread across a number of other intelligence types.
What type are you?

… This Saturday we are going to the osteopath again for Boo's 3rd appointment. I can't wait to see what changes are in store for Boo. She has had a remarkable turn around in terms of her language skills and I'm sure even more is to come with this next appointment.
Plus her speech therapy with the speech pathologist is on next Friday so that will be interesting as well. It was initially going to be a one-on-one but a few more kids are coming to the session which will be good as I can then see how Boo is progressing in comparison. All the kids are meant to be at the same speech level so I can't wait to see how it all pans out.
She is doing so well – i'm so proud of her! Our little acorn is blossoming into a beautiful tree!

From records and stuff
I am the first to admit that I'm not the best recycler and I definitely put my hand up and admit we throw out a large amount of food, items etc that should have/could have been put to better use. So when I heard about Freecycle from a friend, it was an easy decision to join. Freecycle is a free Yahoo group where people post items that they no longer want for free. There are undoubtedly similar groups around and the concept makes complete sense but it's one of those things that I never really thought about until it was mentioned!
Here is the blurb from their home page:
Welcome! The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,951 groups with 8,510,506 members around the world. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by local volunteers (them's good people). Membership is free. To sign up, find your community by entering it into the search box above or by clicking on 'Browse Groups' above the search box. Have fun!
So I have joined up and am looking forward to contributing/seeing what is on offer. Not that I need any more stuff because we are about to move houses, but I have seen offers of moving boxes which I may need to keep an eye on!
So join up now – it's a good cause and best of all, it's free!

If you have been looking into the Montessori method, you have probably found what I have – and that is Montessori materials can be extremely expensive! I am still to decide whether we cave in buy some of the Montessori materials, but at this stage, I am holding out. However, I have found that thrift shops/secondhand shops are the best places to find a few starter pieces on the cheap,
Near me is a plethora of thrift stores (says something about the area I'm in!) and I have taken to visiting these to see what little trinkets I can find that is of use. I am also conscious of not getting too much stuff as we are moving soon and the less we need to cart to the new place the better!
Here is an absolute bargain that I picked up this week:

These cost me a grand $2.50!
Now the only problem is that I have become a thrift shop addict! Stop me now!

We were at the Osteopath again on Saturday for our second appointment. I didn't harbour any great hopes for the first session, especially after Anna said that the first sessions it was mainly an assessment and little work was done. This session was just over 1/2 hour, so a lot shorter, but as it was purely working on Boo, I was hoping that we would see results. And did we? Well, you will have to keep reading
Interestingly, as Anna started working on Kaitlyn's jaw area she asked whether she had twisted her neck in anyway. My husband and I both thought about it for a while and it did strike us that Kaitlyn feel down the slide last Sunday (so after the first appointment with Anna). And the way that she fell was that she twisted her head halfway down the slide and ended up with a bruise and reddness in her cheek. So needless to say, we were both very impressed!
So after about a 1/2 hour session (which thankfully did not last much more as Boo was struggling to keep still at the end), we left the centre and spent a wonderful hour in Fremantle (yay for sunny Perth weather!).
Over the last few days we have been keeping an eagle eye on Boo's progress and I am glad to say that we have noticed a real marked improvement in her speech! (little dance
).

Not only is she copying and saying more new words, we have even moved onto a few three word sentences!
My husband in particular has really noticed it, which is, in itself, a HUGE surprise. So we are completely over the moon and would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone else that is thinking about going to an osteopath for their child's speech development.
Our next appointment is in another 2 weeks as Anna is going to Melbourne for her PHD so will let you know how that goes! Am super excited and really glad that we did it
