Okay, I am probably one of a million odd-people making a New Year's resolution. But I recently read on another blog that rather than make a new year' s resolution, we should look at making new year goals. This makes far more sense to me than a series of 'promises' that always seem to be broken within about 2 months!

So here are my new year goals for 2010:
1. To make $500 a day from internet marketing by 31 March 2010.
2. To quit my desk job by 31 March 2010.
3. To be more organised and efficient with my time.
To explain further:
1. Make $500 a day from internet marketing by 31 March 2010.
This would allow me to quit my desk job and focus on scaling my efforts with internet marketing. I figured if I can make $500 a day consistently, then increasing that to $1,000 a day shouldn't be that difficult. It's the first dollar that is always the hardest to achieve.
To break this down further I need to focus on one or two websites and techniques at a time. The danger is jumping from one thing to another and never spending enough time on one thing.
2. Quit my desk job by 31 March 2010.
I start work again in a few weeks time – Eek! But if I can make $500 a day from internet marketing, then I can throw in the job and focus my efforts on doubling this to $1,000 and then $2,000 etc a day. That is, it becomes a proper business that I can focus on.
3. To be more organised.
Yes, the bane of my existence is feeling like I am chasing my tail! I need to stop wasting time on frivolous tasks such as checking my facebook, reading emails that have nothing to do with my business, getting distracted by other things that don't add to my skill set or business activities etc.
Now that you know my new year goals, what are your goals for 2010?

When I started out on this journey of internet marketing, little did I know that I I would struggle at keeping focussed!
At work (my normal 9-5 desk job), I would pride myself on being able to get lots of things accomplished during the day. Multi-tasking was a given and we would often juggle 5 to 6 different jobs/projects at one time.
But with internet marketing, it seems like staying focussed on one task or one strategy is a real task in itself. And being a stay at home mom probably compounds this.
I have thought about this for a number of weeks and I think it is due to being bombarded with emails and "the latest strategy" constantly. When I first started signing up for "free" ebooks and the like I would be drawn into reading every email that that particular "guru" would send out. What ended up happening was that I spent my days being distracted by the latest ‘new’ fad or product launch rather than focussing on my own projects.
So to combat this I have decided on a number of rules:
1. I don’t read any of these emails from websites I have signed up on at all. If I think the emails are remotely interesting, I transfer them to an email folder for safekeeping rather than wasting time reading another sales letter/ pitch or product release.
2. I have stopped spending time on the Warrior Forum. Whilst it is a great resource, I found that I spent hours reading posts and people’s comments rather than taking action on things myself.
3. I have joined up for a mentoring program. This is a 10 week course that will help me focus on 1 particular area with multiple strategies. Wasn’t cheap, but I think will be worth every penny. Rather than keep buying ebook after ebook I needed a mentoring course to keep me on track.
4. Prioritize my time better. I still spend lots of time with my baby but it is in spurts. She is always in view (except when sleeping – bliss!) but I am splitting my time between interacting with her, feeding, keeping the household running and spending time for myself!
Not an easy task, but it has involved me trying to cram as much into my day as possible without going mad at the same time!
So how do you stay focussed?
Share your tips and experiences so we can all be more productive and achieve our goals!

Received this post from Quick Sprout the other day about 53 ways to become a better entrepreneur.
Lots of good commonsense advice but worth a read to refresh his points in your mind. The points that really resonated with me were:
50.You’ll learn more from starting your own business, than going to business school.
How true! Too many people spend too much time hunting for the next best thing or analysing things to the nth degree. Don’t get me wrong – before jumping into anything you do need to consider all the risks, benefits and pitfalls. But don’t get bogged down in the details. I have been guilty of this many a time – trying to perfect everything before starting a new project or getting stuck on little details that can be dealt with at a later stage. But you learn the most from just taking the plunge. As Nike says "Just Do It!". Real world experience is the best experience that you can buy.
52.Your competitors don’t have to be your enemies, you can learn a lot from them.
How true – use your competitors for inspiration and motivation. You can learn a lot from what other people are doing in the market place. Take the best of what they do and work it to your advantage.
What are your tips about how to become a better entrepreneur?

Apparently it would take someone 31,000 years to visit every webpage in existence on the web, and that is without any sleep!
Check out the story here: http://tinyurl.com/muqzqr.
Google has already indexed more than 1 trillion pages and that is growing every second. And the stats don’t stop there: Approximately 1.46 billion people worldwide now use the internet which represents about a 16% increase from 2007’s estimate. Not surprisingly, the largest internet population belongs to China which claims to have more users of the internet than the US.
So despite more and more people jumping into internet marketing everyday, these stats just prove that there is more than enough to go around.
So I’m off to set up my next website (I have 6 and counting!) to capture some of this market!

Being a new mom and trying to juggle the housework, bub and forging a career in internet marketing is a real task and a half. Thank goodness that us women know how to multitask, but there are moments that I think “how on earth can I do it all”?
Society today puts so much pressure on mothers to be the ultimate “yummy mummy”. We are blasted with images from Hollywood of actresses having babies and in 2 weeks, shrinking back to their pre-baby size. The pictures of these mothers looking oh-so-stylish whilst having coffee with friends and their designer dressed bubs are burned into our retinas.
So when I received this a blog from the Toilet Paper Entrepreneur about advice to succeed as a mom entrepreneur from other mothers, I immediately devoured it. Sometimes you just have to take a moment and breathe… for your sanity and your family’s sanity!
Read it here.
