Montessori or Reggio Emilia?

May 31, 2010 by Michelle

We are blessed in many ways in having educational schooling options for Boo.  Currently she is enrolled in a reggio emilia childcare centre which is brillant! We love the feel of the centre, how it is laid out, the studio and arts environment and the carers. Though she is so young (only 15 months) we think that she enjoys being there and the interaction with the other kids/babies.

But we have been thinking about enrolling her into a Montessori education – which starts at age 3. So unfortunately that means a choice between the Montessori or the reggio emilia approach.  We are torn between the two and would love any feedback, comments or views from others.

So basically our options are:

1. Keep her at the Reggio Emilia centre until she turns primary school age and enrol her in a public primary school

2. Keep her at the Reggio Emilia centre until she turns 3 then move her to the Montessori school and keep her there until grade 6.

In either option we will be moving her to a private highschool once she hits year 7.

The problem with the choice is that there are such polls of difference – people either are strongly for or against the 2 different schooling methods.

So I am asking for help!! If you have any thoughts or experiences, please let me know!
